St Thomas Hotel Guide -

Medium and Large Hotels on St Thomas

When it comes to the medium-to-large class of St Thomas hotel choices, you'll find a good selection ranging from modest to quite luxurious. Most are in or near Charlotte Amalie, a few in other areas of the island.

These places vary considerably in services and amenities, and, correspondingly, in price. Rates quoted are for the high season; off-season rates will generally be 20% - 30% less.

Here are some good medium to large St Thomas hotel choices for you to consider:

The Island Beachcomber Hotel is one of the lowest-priced beachfront hotels on St Thomas. It features 47 rooms on Lindbergh Bay, right next to the airport. Rooms are equipped with A/C, TV, phone, microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker. There's a nice open-terrace bar and restaurant on site.

Situated on a very nice beach, this is a good value for business travelers and vacationers who don't mind the noise from the busy St Thomas airport.

Rates are $139 to $209 nightly.

Best Western Carib Beach: Like its neighbor, the Island Beachcomber (see above), this hotel gives you the advantage of being on a very good beach, and the disadvantage (for most people) of being close to the busy St Thomas airport.

Rooms feature all of the normal amenities and have verandas with very good views of Lindbergh Bay. A good bet for you if you're seeking a beachfront location on a budget, provided you're willing to tolerate the airport noise.

Rates are $134 to $169 a night.

Best Western Emerald Beach Resort: Of the St Thomas accommodations on Lindbergh Bay, this is the most like a true resort. You'll find 90 very well-appointed rooms on a beautiful beach. All the rooms have balconies or verandas overlooking the beach and Lindbergh Bay.

The resort has a very good watersports center, and an excellent pool and open-terrace restaurant overlooking the beach and bay. The grounds are lush and beautifully landscaped. A very nice place to stay if you don't mind the proximity to the airport.

Rates start at $259 a night.

Bluebeard's Castle Hotel is a 170 room resort on a secluded hill high above town. You'll find a wide variety of room types on offer. Amenities vary considerably among the rooms. The best rooms have views over the harbor and surrounding hills.

The hotel has a pool, fitness center, and tennis. There's also a conference center with banquet facilities and three restaurants. Not on a beach, but this well-known St Thomas hotel offers a free shuttle to Magen's Bay Beach.

Rates are $180 to $360.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, VI 00801

Holiday Inn Windward Passage: This is a large (151 room), business-style hotel right on the Charlotte Amalie waterfront, overlooking the cruise ship port. It's a four-story building that takes up an entire square block. The building's four sides surround a large central courtyard.

This St Thomas hotel doesn't offer you as much atmosphere as many others, but it's very popular with business travelers. You'll have an easy walk along the waterfront to the downtown shopping and restaurant district. Avoid the dangerous Savan neighborhood behind the hotel.

Rates are $245 to $395 a night.
